Effective Tips to Clean Tiles and Grout
26 October 2015 | (No Comments)

The best thing about tiles is that they allow you to furnish your home with style. They are not really that expensive, last very long and come in any shape, size and color you can think of. We can’t really talk about tiles without mentioning grout in some way. Grout is the mixture of cement, sand, and water that is used to keep the tiles firmly in place.

While tiles are easy to clean, grout can end up being an absolute pain.

You can utilize the following simple cleaning tips and tricks to tackle them both at the same time and get clean and sparkling tiles and grout every time.

Method#1: Using Oxygen Bleach

  1. Use a mop or a broom to clean the tiles and let it completely dry naturally.
  2. Next you need to create a solution of oxygen bleach and warm water. Pour it into a spray bottle and shake to let it mix well.
  3. Spray the tiles, and pay special attention to areas with really dark grout.
  4. Let the solution rest for about 20 minutes once you are done.
  5. Use a cleaning brush to rub the solution in thoroughly.
  6. Don’t forget to wear gloves even though oxygen bleach is considered a safe option.
  7. If the shine of the tiles and grout is not up to your expectation then repeat the process.
  8. Use clean water to wash the remaining solution and wipe it down.
  9. Let the surface air dry.

Method#2: Using Vinegar and Ammonia

  1. The dust and easily removable residue needs to be cleaned away from the surface before you can begin.
  2. Cleaning with clean water would suffice.
  3. Take ammonia, white vinegar, baking soda and warm water to create a mixture and fill it up in a spray bottle.
  4. Spray the entire surface and leave the mixture on the surface for 5 to 10 minutes.
  5. Use a thick bristled cleaning brush to clean the tiles and grout and wipe the remaining dirty liquid with a damp cloth. Feel free to repeat the process if you are not satisfied with the outcome.

Method#3: Using Hydrogen Peroxide

  1. Use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to create a thick paste and make sure to wear gloves while making it.
  2. With your hands spread the paste over the grout. Make sure to use enough paste to cover all grout and let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Use a thick bristled cleaning brush to rub the paste over and in between tiles and keep on doing that till you see the black grout turn white.
  4. Use a damp old towel to clean the remaining paste off when you are satisfied with the result.
